Economic development
I served on the Maryland Economic Development Commission from 2020 to 2023 as one of twenty-five members advising on economic-development strategy, policy, and priorities. My appointment was confirmed by the Maryland Senate on 12 March 2021.
The distinction between advice and execution matters here. A commission can examine direction and priorities; it does not make an individual member the owner of every state program or economic outcome.
A business perspective in public service
Building a firm gives me one perspective on how plans become work. Commission service adds the perspective of an institution whose responsibilities extend across businesses, communities, administrations, and competing priorities.
This was one of three Maryland gubernatorial appointments in my public-service record, and one of two with Senate confirmation. The appointment record supports the role; it should not be read as a claim of personal credit for state-wide results.
